Description
The Unitree R1 EDU Smart (U2) puts 100 TOPS on the back of the R1 humanoid: an NVIDIA Jetson Orin module rated at 100 TOPS in the R1 EDU computing backpack, two and a half times the EDU Standard's 40 TOPS, with full secondary development and no dexterous hands.
The head's binocular module delivers a 1280 × 720 image, left and right 544 × 448 RGB and a 544 × 448 depth map to the backpack, where your perception, voice and control programs run on the development computing unit, next to the robot's own 8-core CPU and 10 TOPS visual computing module. Unitree's unitree_sdk2 in C++ and Python on DDS, compatible with ROS 2, gives high-level and joint-level control, and the voice interface offers local offline speech recognition.
Underneath is the full R1: about 1.23 m and 29 kg, 26 joint motors, stereo speakers and a 4-microphone array, and a 6000 mAh quick-release battery for about 1 hour. The backpack carries the dexterous-hand expansion module; the Smart itself has no hands. It suits research groups whose work is perception, AI and locomotion rather than grasping.
The R1 EDU Standard (U1) is the same robot with the 40 TOPS module. Pro A, Pro B, Pro C and Pro D share the Smart's 100 TOPS backpack and add two dexterous hands, Unitree Dex3-1 or BrainCo Revo 2. The R1 Basic has no secondary development.

Computing power. The Smart's backpack carries an NVIDIA Jetson Orin module rated at 100 TOPS; the R1 EDU Standard (U1) has 40 TOPS. Everything else is the same: the 26-joint body, secondary development, the dexterous-hand expansion module, no hands fitted and a 12-month warranty.
Your own software. Developers use the backpack's development computing unit for secondary development with unitree_sdk2 (C++, Python), DDS and ROS 2; the head camera's image, RGB and depth streams arrive there, and the R1 EDU can carry one external computing unit. Unitree recommends backing up the backpack's NVMe system drive right after delivery; its guide covers backup and recovery.
Unitree's R1 unboxing film shows the robot in a hard transport case, a quick-release R1 smart battery, the charger and charging cable, a remote control with emergency stop, a stand set (base, support rod, bracket, quick-release clamp, wave washer and protective foam), a calibration steel shaft, body stickers and the user manual. As an R1 EDU it adds the computing backpack with its NVIDIA Jetson Orin module (100 TOPS), expansion rails, screws, the dexterous-hand expansion module and its leads. Unitree publishes no written packing list per edition, so we confirm the full list for your configuration with your quotation.
Like every R1 EDU, the R1 EDU Smart (U2) carries Unitree's 12-month manufacturer warranty (the R1 Basic: 8 months). It is sourced new through established distribution channels and ships worldwide, and technical support is coordinated with the manufacturer's service network. Unitree's R1 developer guide covers the SDK, the computing backpack and fitting the hands.
